Settler Violence = State Violence

In recent years — and especially since 7 October 2023 — there has been a sharp increase in both the number and severity of settler attacks against Palestinians. The incidents reported on this blog do not reflect all incidents of settler violence in the West Bank, but only those that B’Tselem was able to document and investigate.

Settler violence log

Masafer Bani Na’im, South Hebron Hills: Soldier known to locals as a settler blocked a family car, threatened family members, humiliated them and called in soldiers who arrested the father and son

11 October 2025

On Saturday, 11 October 2025, at around 4:00 P.M., a soldier known to residents as a settler nicknamed Milad, set up an improvised checkpoint about 100 meters from a family home in Masafer Bani Na’im and stopped a car in which a family was driving home.

The settler demanded to search the car, confiscated the driver’s license, ID card and cell phone, and began looking through the phone. He ordered the women to get out of the car, cursed the family members and threatened to sexually assault the driver.

The settler then called for reinforcements, and shortly afterward, two more soldiers arrived and arrested the driver and his father at the settler’s request. The two were taken to an army base, where they were held in a caravan and interrogated for about two hours by an Arabic speaker. While they were held there, the soldier continued to swear at them and threaten them.

They were then taken to the police station in Kiryat Arba. Shortly afterward, the police said there was no cause for arrest and ordered their release, but the soldiers took them to another military facility, where a soldier beat the driver, swore at him and threatened him. The two men were held at the facility until 11:00 P.M., and then released and left by the roadside near Hebron.

The driver had bruises all over his body, but sought medical treatment only several days later, after the pain in his chest did not subside.
