Settler Violence = State Violence

In recent years — and especially since 7 October 2023 — there has been a sharp increase in both the number and severity of settler attacks against Palestinians. The incidents reported on this blog do not reflect all incidents of settler violence in the West Bank, but only those that B’Tselem was able to document and investigate.

Settler violence log

Wadi al-A’war, Hebron District: Israeli settlers attacked a Palestinian farmer, throwing stones, hitting and setting a dog on him, which bit him. Soldiers who arrived at the scene threatened him

5 April 2025

On Saturday morning, 5 April 2025, Muhammad Gheith, 43, a farmer from Hebron, and two of his brothers went to work on their farmland in the Wadi al-A’war area, southeast of Hebron.

When they arrived, at around 10:30 A.M., they saw four settlers wandering in the area with a dog and attacking a nearby house with stones.

As Muhammad got into their car to move it away from the area, one of the stones hit it. He got out of the car and shouted at the settlers, who then attacked him with stones. One of the settlers set the dog on Muhammad. It bit his hand, and when Muhammad tried to break free, the dog also bit his left leg. At this point, three of the settlers lunged at Muhammad, who was lying on the ground bleeding from his leg.

The settlers hit him on the back and head until his two brothers and other residents who had been called over approached, and then the settlers backed off and left the area.

About 15 minutes later, soldiers arrived at the scene, but rather than helping the wounded Gheith, they pointed their firearms at him. After the residents explained to the soldiers what had happened, they let Gheith go, and his brothers took him to al-Ahli Hospital in Hebron. He was then transferred to ‘Aliya Hospital, where his wounds were stitched and he received a rabies shot, after which he was discharged with instructions to receive more shots at a clinic.

Gheith went to the police station in Kiryat Arba that same day, but after waiting three hours, he was told no one was available to take his complaint and he had to leave.
